בגלל המלחמה באיראן: הדרישה המפתיעה של כוכב הקולנוע — Because of the war in Iran: the movie star's surprising demand

On 30 March 2026, the Israeli news site Mako published בגלל המלחמה באיראן: הדרישה המפתיעה של כוכב הקולנוע. The page shows no reporter's name. It says the item was published at 13:17 and updated at 19:25 the same day. The article reports that actor and comedian Rob Schneider called for bringing back compulsory military service in the United States, against the backdrop of the ongoing war between the United States and Israel and Iran. An American family should care because a public call for a draft is a call to make young Americans serve, in a war the page itself ties to Israel as well as to the United States. It shows the draft being argued in public, in an Israeli outlet, weeks into the war.

Background for a new reader. The United States and Israel began bombing Iran on 28 February 2026. Within weeks, Americans were asking whether ground troops, and then a military draft, could follow. A draft means the government orders people into military service; the United States has not used one since the Vietnam era. This Israeli page reports one American celebrity's call to bring the draft back.

Evidence rating: MODERATE. The rating covers Mako's report of what actor Rob Schneider posted on X: a call to bring back compulsory military service for young Americans. Mako is a major Israeli news site, and the words are Schneider's as Mako renders them in Hebrew.

What the article says

Mako says Schneider is known mainly for his roles in Adam Sandler films, including Grown Ups and You Don't Mess with the Zohan. It says that over the weekend he wrote on X that the United States must bring back compulsory conscription for the young people of the nation. The sentence Mako puts in his mouth is this.

ארצות הברית חייבת להחזיר את גיוס החובה לצעירי האומה שלנו.

Mako, 30 March 2026, quoting Rob Schneider's post on X. Translated: the United States must bring back compulsory conscription for the young people of our nation.

Mako says he went on: every American, at age 18, must serve two years in the military. They could also choose to serve part of that time overseas, or inside the country in a volunteer framework. He wrote that American citizenship gives freedoms and opportunities with no substitute in the world, but that those freedoms do not come without a price. He wrote that by defending those freedoms, young people, regardless of race, belief, or religion, would be united in service to their country and, no less, to one another. He added that many countries require their young citizens to serve, and that until not long ago the United States did too. He claimed that bringing back the draft would put young people into hard physical training they could use for life, and that, unlike universities today, the military would teach them how great their country really is. He closed by telling the young people of America that the country and the future are theirs, that the nation would be left in their hands for their children and their children's children, and "God bless the United States of America."

Mako then notes his earlier posts, and one of the dates on the page does not fit the article's own publish date. It says that a year earlier, during the tension before the operation it calls Am Kelavi, the Hebrew name of Israel's June 2025 strike campaign against Iran, Schneider opposed the war and posted "no to war with Iran." It then says that in June 2026 he posted that he had been wrong. The words Mako gives are that President Trump was right, the war with Iran was already over, and so was their nuclear program, and that the Iranian nuclear problem, which had lasted more than 40 years, had been eliminated, at least for the coming years. This article is dated 30 March 2026. A post in June 2026 would come after the article. The page does not explain that. A reader cannot treat the June line as something this March article could have been looking back on.

Mako adds its own background on the draft. It says compulsory service in the United States officially stopped in 1972, late in the Vietnam War. It says that to this day American male citizens ages 18 to 25 must register with the Selective Service System. Selective Service is the U.S. registry, set in law, that keeps a list of men so the government can restart a draft in an emergency if it decides it needs one.

What other reporting and posts add

  • The White House on a draft, the same month. AFP Fact Check, 17 March 2026, under the headline "Fabricated Trump post stokes fears of imminent US draft to Iran": "White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told a March 10 briefing that a draft was not part of the administration's 'current plan' but that the president was 'keeping his options on the table.'" AFP also says a viral Trump post about a draft was fake, and adds: "Male citizens between the ages of 18 and 26 are required to register with the Selective Service System, but the Military Selective Service Act does not currently authorize a draft." AFP Fact Check. (capture: twitter/t72__v864.md)
  • A registration change that is real. A 15 September 2026 post that checks draft claims says: "The FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act, signed into law in December 2025, included a provision shifting Selective Service registration from self-registration to automatic registration using federal databases." The NDAA is the yearly law that sets defense policy and spending. Automatic registration builds the list a draft would be drawn from. That post is a secondary summary, not the bill text. Post. • Schneider's earlier posts. The captures did not return Schneider's March 2026 draft post itself. They did return his 22 June 2025 thread on a claimed post-9/11 Pentagon list of countries to attack, in which he wrote that "this plan was not publicly executed as described." Schneider on X. What it shows

Four weeks into the air war, a leading Israeli news site explained the American draft to Israeli readers: that it ended in 1972, that men 18 to 25 must still register with Selective Service, and that a public figure was calling for it to return. The draft question was being discussed openly in Israel's press while Washington said ground troops were not needed. Set this beside what was being built at home: automatic Selective Service registration starting December 2026, and the Pentagon's new rule calling the Individual Ready Reserve "a mobilization asset."
