Channel 12: Israeli Soldiers Will Not Join a US Ground Operation in Iran

Evidence rating: STRONG. Israel's Channel 12 (N12), the country's most-watched news channel, reported on Sunday 29 March 2026 that if the United States launched a ground operation in Iran, Israeli soldiers would not take part on the ground. The report was relayed by Middle East Monitor, Israel Hayom's line was relayed the same day, and the Times of Israel laid out the same outcome on the record three days later.

What was reported

As quoted by Middle East Monitor on 31 March: if the United States launched a ground assault in Iran, "Israeli soldiers will not be participating on the ground" (Middle East Monitor, 31 March 2026). UK Report posted it the night it aired, to more than 9,000 likes: "NEW — Channel 12 says that in case of a U.S. ground operation in Iran, Israeli soldiers will NOT participate on the ground."

X's own news summary, published a few hours later and drawing more than 179,000 posts, carried the headline "Israel Won't Send Ground Troops to Potential U.S. Iran Operation" and summarized:

"Channel 12 reports Israel will support a possible U.S. ground operation in Iran with airstrikes, intelligence, and airpower, but not infantry due to ongoing fights with Hezbollah in Lebanon and its smaller population."

and, in its own words: "As U.S. forces build up in the Middle East, Israel draws a clear line: no ground troops for any Iran mission, leaving Americans to go it alone if needed" (X trending, 30 March 2026).

Israel Hayom carried the same line, as summarized by Skyline Report: "According to Israel Hayom, Israel has ruled out deploying ground troops inside Iran — even as Washington weighs a potential ground offensive" (Skyline Report on X, 29 March 2026). A roundup the following week cited an IDF spokesman, Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, saying there was "no practical idea for ground troops."

The timing

The report aired the same weekend the Washington Post reported that the Pentagon was preparing for "weeks of ground operations in Iran," and the same weekend the USS Tripoli arrived in the region with about 3,500 Marines and sailors (Pentagon Ground Plans 2026). The American ground option was being built. Israel announced, the same weekend, that its infantry would not be part of it.

What Israel offered instead

On 30 March, an Israeli security official told Israel's public broadcaster, as relayed by The War Reporter: "The IDF is providing the US with intelligence ahead of a potential American ground operation in Iran" (The War Reporter on X, 30 March 2026). The same day, senior Israeli officials told Channel 12 that "Israel, for the first time, is planning to propose to the Trump Administration the development of U.S. military bases on its soil, including the construction of new bases and the relocation of existing military bases in countries across the Middle East" (OSINTdefender on X, 30 March 2026).

So in one weekend: intelligence for an American ground operation, American bases on Israeli soil, and no Israeli infantry.

How Americans read it

The report spread fast in the United States because it answered a question families were already asking. One video post put it bluntly: "Israel Just Said: NO IDF Soldiers in Iran War… Only American Troops Will Die" (InsideWithSam on X, 8 April 2026). Journalist Ben Swann asked in May, after Netanyahu said Iran's uranium must be taken out by going in: "after Israel already stated there would be no IDF ground troops entering Iran, does that mean American troops are expected to carry the burden of a ground war?" (Ben Swann on X, 12 May 2026).

A Reddit commenter answering critics made the point narrower but no weaker: "This isn't saying they don't want American troops to invade; it's saying they will not send Israeli troops to Iran." That is exactly the point.

Months later, when the Jerusalem Post printed a column sizing an American ground army at 750,000 to 1.5 million, one widely read post observed: "It makes no mention of any IDF soldiers participating in this invasion" (article page). See The Jerusalem Post Column.

Status: Nadav Shoshani is alive. Ben Swann is alive.
