Mark Levin on Fox: "We Wouldn't Need 300,000 of Them"
Evidence rating: CONFIRMED for the March 28, 2026 broadcast quotes (Media Matters posted the clips; Mediaite and Newsweek reported the segment) and for Trump's promotion of the show (his Truth Social post, as reported). Levin's later clarifications are as reported by Iran International and his own posts.
Mark Levin is a Fox News host (Life, Liberty and Levin) and national radio talk-show host, and one of the loudest voices for the Iran war. He is also the clearest example of how the case for American ground troops was made to a mass audience, with the President's personal endorsement.
The President tells the country to watch
On March 28, 2026, President Trump posted on Truth Social: "Watch Mark Levin interview of Brilliant Marc Thiessen tonight at 8:00 P.M., on FoxNews. Will discuss the importance of hitting Iran, HARD!!!" That night, according to Media Matters, which posted the clips, Levin made the case for troops on the ground:
"We've got to get the uranium — if it cannot be destroyed, if it cannot be altered, we've got to get it."
"Why would we need troops on the ground? Well, there's a lot of reasons, and we wouldn't need 300,000 of them."
Watch it: Media Matters, March 30, 2026, with video; Mediaite; Newsweek.
That was the same week the Pentagon confirmed the 82nd Airborne was deploying and Axios reported plans for ground operations "to secure enriched uranium within Iran's nuclear facilities" (see Pentagon Ground Plans). "Not 300,000" is not "none." It is an argument about how many.
Earlier: "stand with our U.S. military"
On March 3, the day after the first American deaths were confirmed, Levin posted a video urging viewers "to unite and stand with our U.S. military as America confronts the Iranian regime, terrorism, and the nuclear threat," to "expose fake populists," and to "defend Trump's Commander-in-Chief authority under Article II" (Mark Levin on X, March 3, 2026, 200,000 views). Article II is the part of the Constitution that makes the President commander in chief; the argument is that he needs no vote from Congress.
Later: "without our troops on the ground"
As opposition grew, Levin narrowed the claim. On May 17 he wrote, as Iran International reported: "We must help liberate the Iranian people, and we can do it. We can do it without our troops on the ground" (Iran International, May 17, 2026). In August, according to reports of his comments, he described what he had meant as a limited mission, special forces or elements of the 82nd Airborne securing the uranium. And he asked on X: "Which 'neo-cons' are calling for ground troops in Iran?" (Levin on X). The March broadcast remains the answer to his question.
The pushback on camera
Progressive host Ana Kasparian, appearing on The Megyn Kelly Show in April, attacked Levin's position; RealClearPolitics posted the clip under the headline "Kasparian: Mark Levin Is Less Interested In American Patriotism And More Interested In Serving As An Israeli Operative" (RealClearPolitics, April 10, 2026). That headline is her opinion of a commentator, as RealClearPolitics summarized it. In the same appearance, per coverage, she asked why Israel would urge the United States to put service members on the ground if Iran was already so weakened.
The same mission, from Jerusalem
Six weeks after Levin's broadcast, Israel's prime minister described the same operation on CBS: "You go in, and you take it out," and, asked with whose forces, "what President Trump has said to me, 'I want to go in there'" (Netanyahu on Camera). In July the New York Post reported the Pentagon plan: "Thousands of ground troops to storm heavily fortified sites, with a small team of elite commandos tasked with grabbing the enriched uranium." Senator Blumenthal asked the CENTCOM commander whether that mission "would require boots on the ground and significant casualties for United States forces." The commander would not answer in public (Blumenthal).
Status: Mark Levin is alive. Donald Trump, Marc Thiessen, Ana Kasparian, and Megyn Kelly are alive. Characterizations of one commentator by another are reported as opinion.
