Tucker Carlson on Camera: "Israel Would Like Us to Commit Ground Troops"
Evidence rating: CONFIRMED that Carlson said the words quoted from his own videos and interviews below (auto-transcript, network reports, or the embedded clip's transcription). His statements about what happened inside the Pentagon and in private conversations with the President are his reporting, relayed by others; the underlying segments were not captured and are marked.
Tucker Carlson is the most-watched American commentator arguing against the Iran war from the right. He hosted the two interviews that defined the ground-troops debate: with Senator Ted Cruz before the first strikes, and with U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee a week before the second war. And in 2026 he said out loud what the rest of this section documents: that Israel wants American ground troops in Iran.
June 2025: "You don't know the population of the country you seek to topple?"
Four days before the first U.S. strikes, Carlson interviewed Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who was calling for regime change in Iran. CBS News reported the exchange that went viral: Carlson asked how many people live in Iran; Cruz said he did not know. Carlson: "You don't know the population of the country you seek to topple?" and "You don't know anything about Iran." When Carlson raised support from AIPAC (the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the main pro-Israel lobbying group in Washington), Cruz said Carlson had a "weird... obsession with Israel" (CBS News, June 18, 2025; Axios). Carlson's own answer was 92 million, as the Austin American-Statesman reported. The same week he wrote: "The United States should not at any level participate in a war with Iran. No funding, no American weapons, no troops on the ground," and that the U.S. should let Israel "fight their own wars" (post quoting the newsletter, June 16, 2025).
February 20, 2026: the ambassador and the map
A week before the second war, Carlson spent nearly three hours with Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel. Asked whether Israel had a right to the land promised in Genesis, from the Nile to the Euphrates, Huckabee said: "It would be fine if they took it all," then added, "but I don't think that's what we're talking about here today," and that Israel is "not asking to go back to take all of that" (The National, February 20, 2026; full interview on YouTube). A sitting American ambassador, on camera, calling the maximal Greater Israel map "fine." Background: Nile to the Euphrates.
March 12, 2026: "Israel would like us to commit ground troops"
Two weeks into the war, in a short video on his channel:
"Israel would like us to commit ground troops, obviously, but it would take a lot to get us to do that. It would take some sort of terror attack in the United States, probably, like 9/11, in order for us to do that." (Tucker Carlson on YouTube, March 12, 2026, from the auto-transcript)
Eight days later, CBS reported the Pentagon's "detailed preparations for deploying U.S. ground forces into Iran." In the same month, as reported from a video he posted, Carlson said the CIA was preparing a criminal referral against him for "Talking to people in Iran before the war. They read my texts."
June 2026: "the prime minister of Israel decided the time and place of this war"
In June, Carlson argued that the war had exposed who really decides. This clip is preserved in this investigation's video archive:
Video by Tucker Carlson, as posted by @FurkanGozukara on X, June 2026.
From the transcription of the clip:
"it is suddenly obvious to everyone, both in this country and around the world, that the United States does not have sovereignty, which is another way of saying, American leaders aren't really in charge of America. They can make some decisions, they can make noises and give speeches, but big decisions, the ones that changed the course of history are not up to them. They're employees, they're not the boss. This war, it has become very obvious, undeniable, in fact it's been admitted by this administration that the President of the United States didn't decide the time and place of this war, the prime minister of Israel decided the time and place of this war. Benjamin Netanyahu was in charge."
The "admission" he refers to is the Secretary of State's own explanation, on March 2: "We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action" (see Rubio).
September 2026: the Pentagon, and the President in private
Two later reports of Carlson's statements circulated widely. The underlying segments were not captured for this investigation, so they are given as reported:
- A September 14 post: "Tucker Carlson has revealed that during the brief Iran-Israel war earlier this year, Israeli soldiers were barging into U.S. military meetings at the Pentagon, issuing demands, and telling American officers what to do. He says Pentagon officials stood by in silence and is questioning why no one dared to act" (post on X, September 14, 2026).
- A September 26 post on an X article: "Carlson says Trump privately agreed that war with Iran would serve Israel and damage the US. Trump said, 'In the end, we all die anyway. So it doesn't matter'" (post on X, September 26, 2026).
If the first account is accurate, it describes foreign officers directing American ones inside America's own military headquarters. It is the kind of claim that should be put to the Defense Secretary under oath.
Why he matters to this section
Carlson is not a government official, and his words are opinion and reporting, not policy. But on the central question of this section, whose soldiers would go into Iran, he said in March what the Jerusalem Post's arithmetic, the Times of Israel's reporting on Israeli boots staying home, and the Pentagon's plans all pointed to: Israel wants the ground troops, and they would be American.
Status: Tucker Carlson is alive. Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Donald Trump are alive.
