The Republicans Who Crossed: Voting With Democrats to End the Iran War
Evidence rating: CONFIRMED for votes from the House Clerk and Senate roll calls. STRONG for the September 15, 2026 House vote, from consistent news reports.
In a war launched by a Republican President, the Republicans who voted to end it are the hinge. The President called four of them "GRANDSTANDERS." Here is who they are and what they said.
In the House
| Member | Votes to end the war | In their words |
|---|---|---|
| Thomas Massie (Ky.) | Every House vote, March 5 through September 15, 2026 | "The ongoing war between Israel and Iran is not our war." See Thomas Massie. |
| Warren Davidson (Ohio) | March 5, June 3, July 23, September 15 | "War requires Congressional authorization. There are actions short of war, but no case has been made" (Davidson on X). "President Trump's America First message was supposed to be a rejection of the globalist war machine" (BBC). |
| Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.) | May 14, June 3, July 23, September 15 | "We're past the 60 days, so you have two choices. You either follow the law or you change the law. You can't violate the law. That's not an option" (NPR). |
| Tom Barrett (Mich.) | May 14, June 3, July 23, September 15 | One search page gave his first name as Michael; the Clerk lists Tom Barrett. |
| Nancy Mace (S.C.) | September 15 | "Lindsey Graham has one foreign policy: send someone else's kids to war." See Nancy Mace. |
| Zach Nunn (Iowa) | September 15 | Named by Spectrum News among the seven. |
| Mariannette Miller-Meeks (Iowa) | September 15 | Named by Spectrum News among the seven. |

The President, after June 3: "Yesterday, in a meaningless vote, the House voted, 4 bad Republicans and all of the Dumocrats, to limit my War Powers" (NPR).
In the Senate
| Senator | Votes to end or limit the war |
|---|---|
| Rand Paul (Ky.) | Every Senate vote we found, June 2025 through September 2026. See Rand Paul. |
| Susan Collins (Maine) | May 19, June 23, July 23, September 24, 2026 |
| Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) | May 19, June 23, September 24, 2026 |
| Bill Cassidy (La.) | May 19 and June 23, 2026; voted no on September 24 |

Collins has a longer record. In 2020 she "voted Dems on a war powers resolution aimed at limiting the Trump administration's military actions regarding Iran," a summary of her votes notes (MD Richardson on X, May 19, 2026). In April 2026, a reporter reported that Collins, Murkowski, Tillis, and Sen. John Curtis (Utah) "have all said publicly they will not support continued hostilities past 60 days without an AUMF" (DannyKPolitics on X). Curtis did not vote yes on September 24.
Former members and candidates
- Marjorie Taylor Greene, who left Congress, posted on July 25, 2026: "Don't draft our kids for your stupid world war 3," according to an X summary (X trend page). A search page attributed to her: "Americans overwhelmingly do not support going to war. In 2024, we voted to end foreign wars and regime change." Her own posts were not returned by our searches, so we quote the summaries.
- Matt Rosendale, former Montana congressman, "was one of the only people to vote against" automatic registration when the House first passed it in 2024, according to the Montana Libertarian Party (Montana LP on X).
Why they matter
Each Republican who crossed did so against a President of his or her own party, who called them names and, in Massie's case, funded a primary against him. Parents looking for allies in Congress on a draft should start with the members who already paid a price for saying the war needs a vote.
Status: All members named on this page are alive, as is Donald Trump.
