Israel and the American Draft: Whose War the Machine Would Serve

Evidence rating: CONFIRMED that Israeli outlets and officials have discussed American ground troops for Iran in the hundreds of thousands while Israel's own press reported Israeli infantry would stay home; that the Pentagon met on Israel's request to intervene in June 2025; and that Congress is weighing a formal U.S.–Israel defense-technology initiative. STRONG for this page's finding: the draft machine being built in 2025 and 2026 would serve a war that Israel's government pushed the United States into, and whose ground fighting Israeli voices assign to Americans.

A note on the line this page draws: its subject is the Israeli state, its government, intelligence services, and lobby. It is not about Jewish people or Judaism. Many religious Jews reject the Israeli state's claims to speak for them; in 1958, rabbis took out a full-page New York Times ad protesting the Israeli government's "forced draft of women" and "Crackdowns on peaceful protest," as a group recalled in 2026: "The State of Israel Don't speaks for Jews" (@authenttorahjew, April 24, 2026).

The demand side: soldiers for Iran

A draft machine exists to answer a demand for soldiers. In this war, the loudest demand for American soldiers on Iranian soil has come from Israel's side:

  • On August 30, 2026, the Jerusalem Post ran a column saying a ground war in Iran would take "between 750 thousand and 1.5 million American troops," and proposing debt forgiveness to recruit them (the Jerusalem Post column).
  • On March 29, 2026, Israel's Channel 12 reported that if the United States launched a ground assault in Iran, "Israeli soldiers will not be participating on the ground" (Israel will not send infantry).
  • In June 2025, during the first war, NBC reported "An emergency Pentagon meeting discusses Israel's request to intervene in the war against Iran" (as relayed by @clashreport, June 15, 2025), and "A US official told i24News that preparations are being made to join Israel's war against Iran" (@Currentreport1, June 16, 2025). i24NEWS is an Israeli channel.

The Selective Service System's own January 2026 exercise imagined the Department of War asking for "1 million inductees in 15 mos." (the exercise). A million is the number Israeli voices put on the Iran ground war.

The persuasion

A Middle East correspondent posted in June 2026: "How Israel launched an influence campaign to get Americans on board for February war against Iran way back in June 2025" (@borzou, June 28, 2026). The Citizen Lab documented an AI-enabled network aimed at Iranians during the June 2025 war and wrote that it was likely run by "an unidentified agency of the Israeli government, or a sub-contractor" (Citizen Lab, October 3, 2025). See Israeli influence campaigns in June 2025.

The timing

  • June 2025: Israel's war on Iran; the Pentagon meets on Israel's request; the draft agency receives $6 million to modernize its "conscription applications."
  • December 18, 2025: automatic draft registration is signed into law.
  • February 28, 2026: U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran begin a second, longer war.
  • March 30, 2026: the agency files its rule to register men automatically, "about a month after the hostilities in Iran were initiated."
  • April 18, 2026: Palantir, whose Maven software selects targets in the war and was reportedly used for Israeli targeting in Gaza, urges Americans to consider ending the all-volunteer force.
  • July 22, 2026: the agency asks for software to simulate the entire draft. On July 28, according to a news summary that day, "Netanyahu and Zelensky are meeting Trump separately today" (Grok, July 28, 2026).

The technology joining

In May 2026, Responsible Statecraft reported a provision in the House's next defense bill that "would formally merge US and Israeli military technology programs — including shared weapons development, joint production, and linked computer networks." A draft of the bill contains a Section 224, "United States–Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative," covering AI, cyber, quantum, autonomous systems, and biotechnology.

The intelligence reach

Israel's intelligence services have reached into U.S. defense secrets for decades, including, in the AIPAC affair, "a draft presidential directive on Iran" passed by a Pentagon analyst to the lobby and on to Israeli diplomats. In 2026, U.S. officials told reporters the Defense Intelligence Agency raised Israel's espionage threat to "critical," after incidents including "Israeli officers caught planting devices at DIA HQ (2021)." Israel and the White House denied the claims; the classified assessment stands.

What American families are saying

One of the most-liked replies under the July 2026 draft-simulation story was six words: "My kids aren't dying for Israel." (@amitylee13, July 24, 2026). Others: "Prepare for your children to be drafted to fight for Israel" (@ImBreckWorsham); "To think that US soldiers could die on a foreign battlefield at the behest of Israel....it's just beyond scandalous" (r/AlJazeera, May 2025); "To Benjamin Netanyahu's great delight, the White House is not ruling it out" (@TonySeruga, April 9, 2026).

One fact on the rumor that Israeli dual citizens would be exempt: they are not. U.S. dual nationals, including U.S.–Israeli dual citizens, must register like any other U.S. man (Grok, October 12, 2025; @dana916, April 6, 2024). The inequality is not in the registration rules. It is in whose war it is, and whose sons are expected to fight it on the ground.

Israel's own draft, by contrast

Israel is fighting its own draft refusers at home with benefit sanctions and police detention, and an Israeli party leader promises to "draft everyone" (how Israel enforces its draft). Israel conscripts its own citizens and still struggles to fill its ranks. The ground war in Iran is being counted in American soldiers.
