Parents and Veterans Respond: "My Kids Aren't Dying for Israel"
Evidence rating: CONFIRMED that polls in 2026 showed most Americans opposed both a draft and troops in Iran, and that parents, veterans, a sitting member of Congress, and the country's biggest podcaster spoke against a draft for this war. STRONG for this page's point: the people the machine is built to call are already saying no. The machine is built so that their "no" matters less.
Where the public stands
- 66 percent opposed a draft under President Trump, according to an Overton Insights poll from May 2026, as reported by Reason. Reason added: "If you oppose the draft, you should oppose the measures that would make it easier to implement too" (Reason, September 2, 2026).
- 55 percent opposed sending troops to Iran and 7 percent supported a large-scale deployment, in Ipsos figures cited by one widely read summary (@signaloftheeye, July 25, 2026).
A draft for a war most Americans oppose is exactly the case in which refusal would be widespread. That is the case the simulator is being built to model (no-shows, claims, and objectors).
Parents
Under the July 2026 story about the draft simulation, one of the most-liked replies was six words: "My kids aren't dying for Israel." (@amitylee13, July 24, 2026; about 330 likes). Another reply: "I would rather die fighting the people trying to draft me, than die fighting whatever war they want to draft me into" (@BeachBumBeater, July 24, 2026). Under the Defense One post on the same story, a reader asked: "Should we not be more focused on stopping wars that would require accurate draft registrations?" (@DefenseOne thread, July 23, 2026).
In April, when the registration news broke, the question on many parents' minds was put simply: "Are Senators, Congress, POTUS sending their sons?" (Wide Open Country, April 10, 2026). Months earlier, a writer warned that "parents are being flattered into handing over their kids to a machine that treats them as expendable fuel" (@dylanmallman, December 6, 2025).
These parents are doing what this investigation's Plato's chariot pages ask of every parent: looking at the machine, naming whose war it is, and saying no out loud.
A member of Congress
On July 25, 2026, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote: "Don't draft our kids for your stupid world war 3." Reports that day also said she warned that U.S. troops in Iran would spark a political revolution (X trending, July 25, 2026).
Veterans
The veterans' group Common Defense wrote in March 2026: "Talk of a draft for a war of choice isn't just a headline; it's a threat to the stability of our Armed Forces" (@commondefense, March 14, 2026). The next day, X's trending page reported "Veterans Arrested Protesting U.S. War with Iran on Capitol Hill" (X trending, March 15, 2026). In April, Kagan Dunlap posted a video explaining "The Recent Changes to The Selective Service System, And How It's Going to Affect Young Men In America" (Kagan Dunlap, April 10, 2026).
The veterans who know war best are the ones asking why the country is building a way to send other people's sons.

What this means for the machine
The public's "no" is the reason the machine is being built the way it is. A draft that depends on men signing up can be stopped by men not signing up; that is how resistance won in the 1980s (safety in silence and numbers). Automatic registration removes that choice, and a simulator that models "no-shows" plans for the rest. Parents who want their "no" to count need to say it now, to Congress, before December 18, 2026, while it is still a political question and not an enforcement one. See how the machine closes the exits.
