Israeli Influence Campaigns in the June 2025 War: Moving Minds Toward War
Evidence rating: CONFIRMED that researchers documented an AI-enabled network of fake accounts synchronized with Israel's June 2025 military campaign against Iran and assessed it as likely run by an Israeli government agency or contractor. MODERATE for reports that Israel also ran a campaign aimed at Americans, which come from a correspondent's post and video we could not transcribe. STRONG for this page's lesson: the tools that move a population toward war are the same tools that can move, or quiet, a population facing a draft.
PRISONBREAK: AI accounts timed to the bombing
The Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto documented a network it called "PRISONBREAK": more than 50 inauthentic X profiles whose activity ramped up in January 2025 and "appears to have been synchronized, at least in part, with the military campaign that the Israel Defense Forces conducted against Iranian targets in June 2025." It dated "The “Twelve-Day War” which began on June 13, 2025." Its hypothesis on who was behind it: "an unidentified agency of the Israeli government, or a sub-contractor" (Citizen Lab, October 3, 2025; archive).
A summary of the research: "By June 15, fabricated posts claimed economic collapse and corruption, urging citizens to withdraw cash." "From June 20 to 22, the network pushed nightly protests under the hashtag #8OClockCry." The network was "likely operated by an Israeli regime agency or a closely supervised subcontractor," during a war that "claimed the lives of at least 925 Iranians," including a strike on Tehran's Evin Prison that killed "at least 80" (Europe Says, October 4, 2025).
The Carnegie Endowment examined a June 23, 2025 video of the Evin strike and wrote that "Forensic analysis of the Israeli clip suggests that it was likely created using artificial intelligence" (Carnegie Endowment, July 28, 2025). The Israel Internet Association counted 534 fact-checks during the war and found "20% of the checked content was generated using Generative AI tools" (Israel Internet Association, September 28, 2025). An analyst called it "the first time people had seen generative AI be used at scale during a conflict" (Emmanuelle Saliba, quoted by Hello Entrepreneurs, June 21, 2025).
Aimed at Americans
A Middle East correspondent posted in June 2026: "How Israel launched an influence campaign to get Americans on board for February war against Iran way back in June 2025," with a video report. A reply: "the crazy thing is I thought we would never be able to find out who exactly it was behind the social media campaign… and here it is" (@borzou, June 28, 2026).
In February 2026, as the second war began, an attorney who follows online manipulation wrote: "I've seen a massive push by bots related to the war on Iran," and "Because this is a military action, the DOD is able to use its propaganda tools in social media." He warned that domestic use against critics was "all unconfirmed at this point" (@RenzTom, February 28, 2026). In June 2026 a report said "Leaked files expose Meta compliance with Israeli campaign to censor social media coverage of war on Iran" (@StoriesTweet reposting The Cradle, June 20, 2026).
One of the most-shared war claims on X in the week of the June 2025 U.S. strikes, with about 75,000 likes, alleged that "Israel was plotting to carry out a false flag operation by detonating explosives on U.S soil then blaming Iran to instigate war between both countries" (@SuppressedNws, quoted by @DigitalWarCrime, June 26, 2025). It offered no document. Its reach shows how many Americans already suspected they were being steered toward a war for someone else.
Why it belongs on a page about draft software
A draft needs consent, or at least the absence of organized refusal. The same generation of tools that can flood a country with fabricated videos and synchronized fake accounts to move it toward war can be used to shape how that country's young men and parents respond to a draft: to make refusal look shameful or pointless, or to drown out the people organizing it. Russia is already accused of doing this to Ukraine's draft, with AI videos of "draft dodgers" and "mothers saving their sons" meant to "break the resistance of Ukrainian society" (@StratcomCentre).
