Palantir's Maven and the Federal Data Platform: The Software That Already Chooses
Evidence rating: CONFIRMED that Palantir's Maven Smart System was used to select targets at massive scale in the Iran war, and that Palantir holds contracts across federal agencies that handle Americans' data. MODERATE for reported details of the "Funding Palantir" memo and of how Palantir's systems connect agency records, which come from summaries of reporting rather than documents we opened. STRONG for this page's point: software that sorts people from data into categories for action already exists, is already at war, and is built by the company that urged Americans to consider ending the volunteer force.
Maven in the Iran war
The Pentagon's Maven Smart System grew out of Project Maven, the Pentagon's artificial-intelligence targeting program. Palantir builds it. According to a post quoting the Pentagon's Chief Digital and AI Officer, Cameron Stanley, at a spring 2026 conference: "Operation Epic Fury leveraged Palantir's Maven Smart System in order to conduct strike missions across the entire battle space, 13,000 targets in 38 days." The same post reported that "Pentagon planners and military staffs made unprecedented use of artificial intelligence during the 38-day air war against Iran," with daily usage around 20 billion tokens (@PLTRs_Palantir, May 12, 2026). In March 2026, Maven was reported designated a "core military system" (Grok summary, March 25, 2026). One account cited reporting that Maven, with an AI model embedded, "suggested hundreds of targets" for a strike in Iran, "according to three people familiar with the system" (@RealBookerScott, March 5, 2026).
Maven's contract grew from "$480 million" in 2024 with a "$795 million modification in 2025," as one video summary put it (@MindNexusLive, August 27, 2026). A reported August 4, 2026 draft memo from Deputy Secretary Steve Feinberg titled "Funding Palantir" would direct up to $243.9 million for Palantir services through March 2027, plus options into 2028; the Pentagon, per the reports, "called it a standard planning directive" (Grok summary citing The Register, Washington Technology, Federal News Network, and DefenseScoop, September 22, 2026). A post about the leaked memo drew about 3,100 reposts (@lsthart reposting @Swamp__Watch). One commentator put a caption on it: "Peter Thiel has the wheel" (Jenny Cohn, reposted by @kaybaura, September 22, 2026).
What the targeting system did on its first day is on the Minab school strike and Maven.
"The de facto operating system of the US government"
Maven chooses targets abroad. Palantir's other platforms organize Americans' records at home. An account with a large following summarized the 2025 picture: "Under President Trump, Palantir is evolving into the de facto operating system of the US government," with "over $900 million in federal contracts"; it described a "centralized “mega‑API” that will unify data access across all departments," Palantir programs "Gotham and Foundry ... being used to consolidate Americans' data from all federal departments into one accessible search platform, per an executive order signed by Trump in March to eliminate “information silos,”" and "DOGE is collaborating closely with Palantir to develop a centralized platform for accessing Americans' data" (@AFpost, August 2, 2025; about 3,900 likes). That March 2025 order, Executive Order 14243, is the same one the draft agency cites for its data feeds (SSS Strategic Plan).
Other reported Palantir work touching Americans:
- Immigration. A 2025 overview listed an ICE "ImmigrationOS" contract of "$30 million," and quoted former Palantir engineer Linda Xia: "data collected for one reason should not be repurposed for other uses." It said thirteen former employees had spoken out (@djpinna, August 14, 2025).
- Children's welfare. "HHS is planning a nationwide biometric vetting network for sponsors of unaccompanied children. A draft procurement links mobile fingerprinting, FBI checks, Palantir-based workflows and continuous risk monitoring" (@BiometricUpdate, August 14, 2026).
- Vaccine logistics with the Pentagon. A BARDA official was quoted saying "The distribution plan was developed by Department of Defense logistics personnel as well as Palantir [in order] to track hundreds of millions of doses" (as relayed by @SenseReceptor, November 18, 2025). A national population logistics operation, run by the Pentagon and Palantir, has already been done once.
Karp describes his company's role as the "application layer" that makes AI usable: large language models "are like uranium... They have to be processed," and "These things are not deployable without processing engines, application layers, Ontology, et cetera" (@firesidealpha, July 14, 2026).
What connects this to a draft
On the public record, Palantir does not hold a Selective Service contract. The draft agency's own software is built by small IT firms (the vendors). What connects them is capability and direction: the draft agency is pulling Americans' records from the same federal agencies whose data platforms Palantir builds, under the same executive order on "information silos," while Palantir publicly urges the country to consider ending the volunteer force. Americans reading those facts together have drawn the obvious conclusion. A veteran and lawyer wrote that automatic registration is a "Palantir run system that will be used to hunt down draft evaders later on" (@dohertytjp, April 10, 2026). Another: "I guarantee databases made by companies like Palantir on young patriotic men will come to use when there is a draft" (@manskimilla, September 20, 2026). A third wrote that during Vietnam "THEY DIDN'T HAVE AN ICE ARMY OR PALANTIR AND SUCH TECH TO FIND YOU AND KNOW WHERE WE ALL ARE ALL THE TIME" (@WyattWashburn2, August 23, 2026). One even used "the palantir (tm) data-driven way" as a name for mobilizing a country (@Nayberryk, September 19, 2026).

Status: Cameron Stanley, Steve Feinberg, Alex Karp, Peter Thiel, and Linda Xia are alive. Nothing here states or implies that Palantir or any named person broke any law; claims about Palantir and draft evaders are attributed to the people who made them.
