Christian Zionism, the Bible, and the Iran War

Christian Zionism is the belief, held by many American evangelical Protestants, that the modern State of Israel is the fulfillment of biblical prophecy, that God's promises of land to Abraham apply to it today, and that nations that "bless Israel" will be blessed. It is not the same as Judaism, and many Christians reject it. But it has powerful friends in Washington: the U.S. ambassador to Israel is a Christian Zionist, and the belief now shapes how the Iran war is explained to some American troops.

This matters for Greater Israel because Christian Zionism reads the same verse the Israeli maximalists read. Genesis 15:18 promises Abraham's descendants the land "from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates." If that promise is a title deed, as some Israeli proponents say, then an American official who believes it has no principled reason to object when Israel takes more land.

Evidence rating: CONFIRMED that the U.S. ambassador justifies Israel's land claims on biblical grounds; STRONG that biblical end-times language has been used with American troops about the Iran war.

The ambassador's theology

In his February 2026 interview with Tucker Carlson, Ambassador Mike Huckabee described Israel as "a land that God gave, through Abraham, to a people that he chose," "a people, a place, and a purpose," and said it "would be fine" if Israel took the whole land from the Nile to the Euphrates (TRT World, 21 February 2026). He argued the United States must "bless Israel," citing God "blesses those who bless Israel and curses those who curse Israel" (The New Arab, 21 February 2026). TRT World reported that when challenged on whether this gave Jewish Israelis greater rights than Palestinians "with centuries-old roots in the territory," the envoy "defended the idea of a God-given inheritance" (TRT World on X, 21 February 2026). Dr. Sabreena Ghaffar-Siddiqui, reacting the same day, summed up what she heard: "He's very clearly telling you that Zionism is not Judaism, but justifying Zionism with Judaism" (Sabreena Ghaffar-Siddiqui on X, 21 February 2026).

Huckabee's belief is on display on the ground too. In May 2025 he visited the West Bank settlement of Shiloh and posed with red heifers, animals some evangelical Christians and Jewish groups see as required for a ritual to purify a rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem (as described by Tyroist on X, 19 September 2026).

The same verse, from American pulpits and feeds

The theology is not confined to one man. An account called Benjamin Rapture Ready wrote in September 2026: "The Bible very precisely indicates the borders, from the Nile to the Euphrates (Genesis 15:18). The time will come when this entire area will belong to Israel" (TheBelieverJC on X, 19 September 2026). In January 2025 the same account wrote that "Israel currently possesses only a fraction of the land God has promised" (TheBelieverJC on X, 8 January 2025). After Netanyahu's September 2026 United Nations speech, another commentator wrote that "God promised an oath to Himself that the descendants of Abraham will have the land from the Nile to the Euphrates - yes Greater Israel" (Simon Timothy on X, 26 September 2026).

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson used the same frame at the Ariel settlement: "The Bible teaches that Judea and Samaria were promised to the Jewish people, and they belong to you by right" (as quoted by CAIR, 25 September 2026).

What troops were told about Iran

The Executive Intelligence Review reported in March 2026 that "field commanders have filed over 110 complaints in the war's first 48 hours reporting that their officers told them Trump had been 'anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon.' The Defense Secretary has used the word 'crusade' without apparent embarrassment." The same report said that "a classified National Intelligence Council report, completed a week before Feb. 28, concluded that even large-scale military assault would not lead to regime change in Iran. ... The attack happened anyway, because this war was not launched on an intelligence estimate. It was launched on a prophecy" (EIR daily brief, 8 March 2026, posted by Helga Zepp-LaRouche on X). The complaints and the NIC report are EIR's reporting; the documents themselves were not published.

A post under the Mondoweiss name repeated the pattern in August and September 2026: "US troops are told that the Iran war is God's plan. The US Ambassador to Israel said the Bible grants Israel land from the Nile to the Euphrates. Trump's spiritual adviser, with a White House office, states opposing Trump is opposing God" (deividgabriel7 on X, 19 September 2026).

Christians who say no

The strongest challenge to Christian Zionism has come from Christians. Pastor Ray McBerry of Pinnacle Baptist Church in Griffin, Georgia, a two-time Republican candidate for governor, argued in a June 2026 interview, as summarized by Akbar Ganji, that "the ultimate goal of the Iran war and regional conflicts is the establishment of Greater Israel from the Nile to the Euphrates; this is an eternal war and continuous territorial expansion," and that evangelicals misread Genesis 12:3 as a blank check; the summary names John Hagee and Ted Cruz as Christian Zionists whose support for a rebuilt Temple he criticized (Akbar Ganji on X, 12 June 2026). A Christian post viewed 18,000 times in July 2026 told readers: "we are told that supporting modern Israel is somehow a religious duty. This video shows exactly what that support actually looks like in practice: the destruction and displacement of entire nations while American Christians are expected to foot the bill and remain silent" (Madlad on X, 1 July 2026).

Tucker Carlson, speaking as a Christian, put it in terms any parent can use: "The second you start telling me as a Christian I'm obligated to support the government of this country, then I have a right to ask what you're talking about" (as quoted by Andromeda11711 on X, 4 May 2026). The post added its own summary: believing the Bible gives Israel land rights is faith; turning that into "US must back every move with our troops, money, and wars" is something else. That distinction is the one this investigation asks readers to hold on to: see Plato's Ethics on the Black Horse on how appetite and zeal overrule judgment.

Status: Mike Huckabee, Mike Johnson, Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson, Ray McBerry, John Hagee, Ted Cruz, and Sabreena Ghaffar-Siddiqui are alive. Nothing on this page states that any of them committed a crime.
