The Label in 2026: How the Antisemitism Charge Has Been Aimed at Critics of the Iran War

A parent's fear of being called antisemitic is not paranoia. In the first months of the war, the charge was aimed at a Marine veteran, a counterterrorism director, a television host, a vice president's allies, a congressman, and an Iranian-born professor. This page lays out who was labeled, for saying what, and by whom. Read the sentences each one actually said. In almost every case, the statement was about a government, a lobby, or a war. The reply was about Jews.

"America does not want to send its sons and daughters to war for Israel"

At a March 4, 2026 Capitol Hill hearing on the military operation in Iran, Marine Corps veteran Sgt. Brian McGinnis was removed after shouting, "America does not want to send its sons and daughters to war for Israel!" and "No one wants to fight for Israel!" The account comes from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which files the moment under a narrative it calls "'Americans Dying for Israel' / The U.S. as Israel's Military Proxy," describing it as "the most dominant and cross-ideological throughline" since the war began February 28 (ADL Center on Extremism, March 2026).

Read the veteran's sentence as a parent would. It names America, sons and daughters, war, and Israel, a state. It does not name Jews. The ADL's own list of narratives includes the claim that "the strikes were launched for Israel's benefit at the cost of American lives." That is a claim about why two governments acted. It can be tested against the record, and this investigation tests it in Who Pushed the Iran War.

"It's an old antisemitic trope"

Israel's ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, called commentator Tucker Carlson "disgusting" and "antisemitic," in part for suggesting that Israel had maneuvered President Trump into the war: "It's an old antisemitic trope: the Jews are in control" (The Times of Israel, March 5, 2026). Carlson's claim was about a government: that Israel's prime minister pushed an American president. The ambassador's answer was about a people. Those are different sentences.

In May, Carlson told Israel's Channel 13 that Netanyahu, supporters in the media, and donors pushed Trump into the war; the White House called him "a low-IQ person who spreads fake news for cheap publicity" (Times of Israel, May 2026). An April profile recorded that he told the BBC the United States went to war "at the behest and then the demand of Israel" (@DefiyantlyFree, April 16, 2026). The investigation's video archive holds a clip of Carlson on the same theme, which the archive describes as: "US has lost sovereignty — American leaders are employees, not the boss; Netanyahu decided the time and place of the Iran war":

A political scientist's blurb for a 2026 book supports the substance of what Carlson said: "Many Americans have struggled to understand why President Donald Trump launched a massive attack on Iran shortly after a presentation by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House Situation Room urged him to do so" (Rogers M. Smith, printed by @QuincyInst, July 13, 2026).

"Let's talk about antisemitism"

When CNBC asked the ADL's chief executive, Jonathan Greenblatt, "Did Israel pull America into the war on Iran?", an X search page recorded the exchange as: "ADL's Greenblatt: Let's talk about antisemitism." A reply on the same page: "Greenblatt's deflection is the oldest trick in the book: when criticized, cry antisemitism" (X search capture, March 2026). The question was about Israel's government. The answer changed the subject.

The counterterrorism director

A senior official resigned over the war. Joe Kent, identified in posts as President Trump's director of the National Counterterrorism Center and "a decorated Green Beret, Gold Star husband," was quoted as writing: "Iran posed NO imminent threat. We started this war due to pressure from Israel + its AIPAC lobby" (as quoted by @jpoflaherty, March 18, 2026; the letter itself was not opened for this page). When critics called the letter antisemitic, an X community note answered: "Kent's letter criticizes Israel's influence to attack Iran, since there was no imminent threat to America. IHRA states that criticism of Israel isn't antisemitic. The letter does not mention Jewish people. Vox notes Netanyahu did lobby Trump for war" (X search capture, March 2026). One reply to a politician who attacked Kent put the charge back where it began: "you smear him to shield your donors" (@MadEngineering, March 17, 2026).

The congressman, the Vice President, the commentators

  • Rep. Thomas Massie used a line about "Tel Aviv" in May 2026. Sen. Ted Cruz answered, "I wish he hadn't said this," and a pro-Israel group called it "a cheap dual-loyalty smear against pro-Israel Americans" (@IsraelJustOrg, May 23, 2026, quoting @tedcruz). Massie is also one of four House Republicans who voted for every war-powers resolution (reading item 8).
  • Vice President JD Vance. The columnist Charlotte Allen wrote in July: "The entire anti-Vance smear campaign exists solely because of his anti-Iran War stance. ... its proponents will stop at absolutely nothing--antisemitism, whatever--to prevent him from winning" (@CharlotteA15906, July 30, 2026).
  • Podcasters. On June 17, 2025, during the first war, the radio host Mark Levin wrote that Trump voters "overwhelmingly support destroying the Iranian Nazi regime, while the media obsess over and promote the insane views of antisemitic podcasters, fake MAGA grifters, a bizarre congresswoman, low IQ comedian bigots" (@marklevinshow, June 17, 2025). An Army combat veteran answered: "Label dissenters as antisemites to shut down debate. Smear any critique of war as 'pro-Iran.' Push binary choices: 'Support Israel or you're a terrorist'" (@Patriot_Josh11, June 17, 2025).

The label and the pressure on jobs

The label is not only an insult. It is tied, in these accounts, to careers:

  • An Iranian-born professor, Shirin Saeidi, said in a September 2026 interview: "My Jewish colleagues who are critical of Israel are also blacklisted. But when someone like me, born in Iran with an Iranian name, says these things, I'm quickly depicted as a terrorist" (clip posted by @RT_Breaking_, September 24, 2026). The journalist Ben Weinthal had earlier called her a "fired ex-academic" and asked the public for information about her (as reposted by @Babak_J_T, July 28, 2026).
  • The Iranian American organization NIAC wrote that "the 'dual loyalty' smear has been used to silence progressive Iranian-American voices lest they be labeled 'agents of the Islamic Republic' for opposing war and sanctions" (@NIACouncil, April 29, 2024).
  • The investigation's video archive holds a clip in which the broadcaster Rick Sanchez, as the archive describes it, "explains Israel lobby rule — say anything positive toward Iran or antagonistic toward Israel and you are fired and blacklisted from media":

When the "trope" is said by diplomats

The Israeli-English outlet JNS argued in May that "the spurious charge that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushed a reluctant U.S. President Donald Trump to attack Iran has been common," and faulted The Guardian for quoting a Gulf diplomat who said: "We regarded Witkoff and Kushner as Israeli assets that dragged a president into a war he wants to get out of" (JNS, Adam Levick, May 3, 2026). Notice what JNS was objecting to: not an anonymous post, but a diplomat from an American partner government, quoted in a major British newspaper, describing two American officials. When the view that Israel pushed the war is held inside Gulf capitals, calling it a trope does not make it go away.

What this record teaches a parent

  • The charge is real, and it has been used on people with far more standing than any parent: a decorated veteran, a counterterrorism director, a congressman.
  • In nearly every case, what they said was about a government, a lobby, or a war.
  • The honest answer is not silence. It is precision. See Where the Line Is Crossed and read the voices of Israelis and American Jews who oppose this war.
