Back to the Wall: Rejecting the Checklist and Returning to "Nothing Is Happening"

Plato expected this. The freed prisoner, made to look at the fire, feels "a pain in his eyes which will make him turn away" toward the familiar shadows (Republic 515e, trans. Jowett). Many parents read a checklist like the one in this section, feel the weight of it, and go back to "nothing is happening." This page is about why, and how to stay out.

Why people go back

The promise. "You do not have to double down just because you once believed. You do not have to defend the indefensible just to avoid admitting a mistake. That is the psychological trap" (Chetter, 20 March 2026). See The "No New Wars" Promise.

The social cost. In Plato's cave the prisoners laugh at the one who saw daylight and conclude "it was better not even to think of ascending" (517a). In 2026 people who questioned the war were called "treasonous voices," "middle eastern bots," or were told "Nobody cares what you think." One commentator was reported banned from CPAC for calling the 2026 conference "Iran War Propaganda" (The DP Show, 16 September 2026). See The Family Cost of Questioning and Fear of the Antisemitism Label.

The label. Critics of the war were told their view was antisemitism: one post in June 2025 claimed "everyone claiming Iran wasn't building a bomb is simply expressing their antisemitism" (@YadaCraig, 20 June 2025). Another called Joe Kent's account of Israeli pressure a "libel" in the tradition of the "court Jew-baiter" (@Grey_0G, 24 March 2026). The record that the U.S. entered the war "at the request of" Israel comes from the U.S. State Department (Snopes). A critic answered: "This is not antisemitism; it's just patent truth" (@AslansVoice, 25 September 2026). This investigation's line is crisp: the subject is the Israeli state, its government, intelligence services, and lobby, never Jewish people.

The denial ladder. "It's not happening," then "not enough evidence," then "only marginally," then "it's happening and it's good." Each rung makes the next feel normal. See The Denial Ladder.

The shrug. "Selective service... just becomes automatic, this is not a big deal." See The Black Horse Shrug.

The one question that keeps you out

A commentator put it in September 2026: "What evidence would make you accept that this isn't true?" If the answer is nothing, "then the belief is no longer being tested. It's being protected" (@TheLinzerShow, as quoted by @truthcrimefan, 20 September 2026). Ask it of "nothing is happening." Then open the documents that answer it:

  • Is there a war? The 28 February announcement, 19 American dead.
  • Is my child on a list? Section 535, automatic registration from December 2026.
  • Is a draft being prepared? The Selective Service simulation request.
  • Why did we go in? The State Department opinion: "at the request of" Israel.

If you do go back

Write down which step you stopped at and what document would change your mind. Then look for that document. The climb out of Plato's cave took more than one try; he says the prisoner was "reluctantly dragged up a steep and rugged ascent." The checklist is here when you are ready: A Parent's Checklist.
