"Roaring Lion": The Israeli Government Report That Tracked American Posts About the War
The document
An Israeli government daily status report for 2 March 2026, filed under the operation name "Roaring Lion," tracked roughly "2.32 million posts on X" about the war and quoted an American commentator's post complaining that "they dragged us into a regional war with Iran" (gov.il, Roaring Lion daily status, 2 March 2026). Only an excerpt of the PDF was read for this investigation.
"Operation Roaring Lion" is Israel's name for its part of the campaign; Green Left reported an Israel Democracy Institute survey in early March finding 93% of Jewish Israelis supported it (Green Left, 28 March 2026).
What it shows
From the war's first days, the Israeli government was measuring American opinion about the war, including the specific American complaint that Americans had been "dragged" into it. Monitoring is not the same as censoring. It does show that the argument inside the American cave, whether this is America's war or Israel's, was being watched by a foreign government with a stake in the answer.
Why a parent should know
When a parent reads a post saying "Israel dragged us in," and a reply calling that antisemitic, both are part of a conversation a foreign government is counting. Read the documents, not the reactions: the State Department's own lawyer wrote that the United States entered "at the request of" Israel (the opinion).
