Checklist Step 4: Is This Part of a Bigger, Older Plan?
The shadow you may have heard: "The Greater Israel and country-list stories are fringe myths."
Documents to check
- The country list. Retired General Wesley Clark on Democracy Now, 2 March 2007: a post-9/11 Pentagon memo to "take out seven countries in five years," ending with Iran (The Post-9/11 Pentagon Country List). Scorecard: Seven-Country Scorecard.
- The Israeli strategy papers. A Clean Break (1996) and the Yinon Plan (1982) (A Clean Break; Yinon Plan).
- The Brookings blueprint. Which Path to Persia? (2009), chapter "Leave it to Bibi": "the United States would encourage—and perhaps even assist—the Israelis in conducting the strikes themselves" (as quoted by @Greg_the_Berean).
- Israeli officials in their own words. Netanyahu, in an August 2025 i24NEWS interview in which he was shown an amulet with a map of Greater Israel, answered "Very much" and "If you ask me what I think, we're there" (as reported by the Sami Haraketi blog; see Netanyahu's Greater Israel Interview). Finance Minister Smotrich: "What matters to them is that we take territory from them" (as quoted on X, 9 May 2026). More: Smotrich and Ministers' Statements.
- A former U.S. official. Middle East Monitor headline, 28 April 2026: "US former official: Iran war is direct extension of 'Greater Israel' project" (MEM).
What they show
A plan naming Iran as the last of seven countries existed in the Pentagon after 9/11; Israeli strategists wrote the regional logic in 1982 and 1996; U.S. think tanks mapped how to let Israel strike first in 2009; and senior Israeli officials speak about the larger map openly. Most of the seven have since been struck, destabilized, or invaded (see the scorecard). Iran is the seventh.
Ask yourself
If the war on Iran was planned decades ago, what does that say about "last, best chance"? Is this America's plan, or someone else's that America is carrying out?
