The record
In July 2026 the Selective Service System posted a request for vendors to build a computer simulation of a draft. The reader-added note on X summarized it: "Selective Service seeks vendors for a draft scenario simulation (proposals due Aug. 14) ahead of auto-registration Dec. 2026." The note linked Military Times, SAM.gov (the federal contracting site), sss.gov, and Stars and Stripes (note on Alex Jones's post, 28 July 2026). Grok's summary the same day: Selective Service "posted an RFQ last week for simulation software to test mobilization processes ahead of automatic registration for men 18-26 starting December under the 2026 NDAA" (Grok, 28 July 2026). An RFQ is a request for quotation, the government asking companies what they would charge.
How it was reported
The same week Alex Jones posted: "BREAKING: Trump Orders Pentagon To Prepare National Draft In Three Weeks As US Troops Mass For A Ground Invasion Of Iran!" His post said Selective Service had "Published A Request Last Week Asking Vendors To Create A Computer Simulation" (about 1.58 million views). The People's Voice ran "Trump Orders Pentagon to Prepare for 'Mass Conscription' as Ground Troops Mobilize for Iran Invasion" (The People's Voice, 28 July 2026). The note answered: "No evidence Trump ordered a national draft prep. Drafts need Congress."
What a parent should take from it
The headline overshot: no presidential order has been published. The object underneath is real and more telling than the headline. A government that says a draft is not planned is paying to rehearse one, on the same schedule as the law that builds the list automatically. That is the machinery, on a federal contracting site, while the public line is "nothing is happening."
