Shadow Four: "Combat Ineffective" and "We Won the War" vs. a War Still Running

The shadow​

In March 2026 Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said, as quoted by Senator Chris Murphy: "Never before has a modern, capable military, which Iran used to have, been so quickly destroyed and made combat ineffective." The President told reporters on 3 March: "We won the war." A list compiled in July counted him declaring victory "at least 31 separate and different times," including a 1 May 2026 letter to Congress: "The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated" (X search snippet, 24 July 2026; the letter itself was not opened for this page).

The objects​

  • Senator Murphy, May 2026: "They lied through their teeth. Just straight up fabricated shit" (X, 7 May 2026). That is his accusation.
  • On 17 March 2026 a likely Iranian-made drone hit the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad, and Iran's foreign ministry spokesman said: "What we target are American bases and assets" (Zerohedge roundup posted by Owen Gregorian).
  • On 3 April 2026 an American F-15E was shot down over southwestern Iran (Wikipedia outline).
  • In April the New York Times reported, per U.S. intelligence, that Iran still had "roughly 50% missile launchers and 50% of attack drones left" (as posted on an X search page, 18 April 2026).
  • On 10 June, asked whether bombing was resuming, the President answered: "Yeah. We are" (@Osint613 clip).
  • In July an X summary of Washington Post reporting said officials found strikes "unlikely to have a significant impact on Iran," leaving the countries "stuck in an undefined intermediate state between peace and war" (X trending, 21 July 2026).
  • By 23 September 2026 Iran's president at the UN described "nearly seven months of war" (Al Jazeera headline, as pasted by @rjtees1).

A retired Army general, Randy Manner, was described in a July 2026 snippet as saying "the White House and Pentagon are lying about what Iran can actually do," and the same snippet summed up: "Washington is telling citizens none of it is happening" (X search snippet, 22 July 2026).
