Voting in the 3 November 2026 Midterms: The Draft and the War on the Ballot
The midterm elections are on 3 November 2026. Every House seat and a third of the Senate are on the ballot. With the Senate one vote short of ending the war, a single race can decide whether American sons and daughters are sent into Iran.
Voters were promised no new wars
Many parents voted in 2024 on a promise. On election night the President-elect said: "I'm not going to start a war. I'm going to stop wars" (as quoted in a Mises Caucus release, 31 March 2026). During the campaign he warned that his opponent would start World War III and that "All of your sons and daughters will end up getting a draft notice" (as reposted on X, 9 March 2026; the post is cut off after that phrase).
Then the war came. "If the republicans really wanted my vote in 2026, they should have done what they promised... I didn't want war with Iran for Israel. I don't care about Iran, I care about Indiana," one voter wrote the day before the war began (X, 28 February 2026). A March 2026 dispatch addressed to Trump voters: "He said no new wars... Now we've got war... You do not have to double down just because you once believed" (Chetter on X, 20 March 2026). More on The "No New Wars" Promise.
Candidates are moving
The Guardian reported in September 2026 that Republicans in key congressional and governor's races had begun calling for an end to the war (The Guardian, 24 September 2026). Senator Kaine said the weekly votes continue because candidates "are starting to change their position." Public opinion moved first: war support fell from 40% on 3 March to 34% by 18 July 2026 in polling averages, and only 7% of Americans supported a large-scale ground war in March (Wikipedia, Reactions to the 2026 Iran war).
Questions for every candidate
- Will you vote to end U.S. hostilities with Iran unless Congress authorizes them?
- Will you vote to cut funding for ground operations in Iran?
- Will you vote against any bill to restart induction, and to repeal automatic registration?
- Have you or your family taken money from AIPAC or other groups lobbying for this war? (Records: AIPAC and the Lobby.)
- Would your own children be eligible under a new draft? See Whose Children Go?
