← The Nuclear Case vs. the Intelligence
Joe Kent: "Israel Was Telling Us They Would Be Able to Assemble Ten Bombs in Two Weeks"
Evidence rating: STRONG. Kent's words are on video and in interviews. He is a named former senior official describing what he saw inside the government.
Joe Kent was director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), the US agency that pulls together intelligence on terrorist threats to Americans. He is described as "the highest-ranking Trump-administration official to have resigned in protest of the Iran war" (as summarized by EIR, May 23, 2026). His resignation came during the second, 2026 round of the war. What he said about the intelligence reaches back to June 2025.
"All 18 of America's intelligence agencies agreed"
On camera in March 2026, asked how anyone could be sure Iran was not developing nuclear weapons, Kent said: "All 18 of America's intelligence agencies agreed — Iran had no capacity to develop a nuclear bomb. But Israel was telling us they would be able to assemble ten bombs in two weeks" (video, @allenanalysis, March 22, 2026). The post that shared it, seen about 1.5 million times, compared Israel's claim to the Iraqi exile Ahmed Chalabi, whose false tips helped sell the Iraq war.
On Fox News in May 2026 he put it this way: "One of the many tragedies of this war is that before the war began, the U.S. Intel Community, including the CIA, was in agreement that Iran wasn't developing a nuclear weapon" (as posted by @IraninJapan, May 9, 2026).
His resignation letter, as summarized in 2026 posts, said there was no imminent Iranian threat of attack on the United States (per the research captures).
"Until Israel is taken out of the loop"
In an interview reported by Responsible Statecraft and summarized by EIR, Kent said the United States cannot end the war "until Israel is taken out of the loop." According to that summary (EIR via @ZeppLaRouche, May 23, 2026; EIR article):
- The US intelligence community, "including Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard's own testimony days before the June 2025 strikes, found no evidence Iran was building a nuclear weapon."
- "Prime Minister Netanyahu's four trips to Washington between July and December 2025, documented in a New York Times reconstruction, paid off," and Israeli officials, in Kent's telling, "were explicit from January 2025 that their object was regime change, not nonproliferation."
- After Operation Midnight Hammer, "the circle shrunk down to just the president and a handful of advisers," and once the 2026 war began, "our ideas really weren't even reaching the White House."
- Of the result: "That was the Israeli strategy. It was very effective, and now we're back in this situation."
Why his account matters
Kent is not an outside critic. He ran the agency charged with protecting Americans from attack. His account joins three pieces of this investigation:
- The intelligence said Iran was not building a bomb (Gabbard's March 2025 Testimony).
- Israel's government supplied a different, alarming number ("ten bombs in two weeks") and campaigned in Washington for American strikes (Netanyahu's Campaign and the Joint War).
- The goal, in his telling, was regime change, not stopping a bomb. That fits the long-standing plan described in Greater Israel and The Pentagon's List of Wars.
Status: Joe Kent is alive, as far as these sources show.
