Days 2 to 7, June 14 to 19, 2025: Cities Under Fire and Washington Moves Toward War
Evidence rating: CONFIRMED for the strikes and statements below, which come from Israeli outlets, wire services and the officials' own words.
For six days Israel bombed Iran and Iran fired missiles back. In those same six days the American President moved from "defensive posture" to demanding Iran's "unconditional surrender," while his own intelligence chief's assessment that Iran was not building a bomb was brushed aside. This page follows those days.
June 14 (Day 2): energy targets and the first mass-casualty strikes
- Israel widened its targets to Iran's energy system. "Israeli forces have conducted more strikes targeting Iranian Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricant (POL) production facilities, and Iranian forces have responded by striking the POL refinery in Haifa" (S2 Underground, June 14, 2025). An Iranian oil depot at Shahrak in western Iran was still burning six weeks later (@Osint613, July 30, 2025).
- Israel struck Iran's Ministry of Defence headquarters; Iranian media reported an explosion and fire at Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport; the IDF said about 60 jets struck central Iran and destroyed three F-14 fighters (Wikipedia portal; Wikipedia-style chronology pasted on a forum).
- An Iranian missile killed four women of one family in the Arab town of Tamra in northern Israel (Times of Israel liveblog, June 15).
June 15 (Day 3): Bat Yam, Tehran car bombs, and a veto
- An Iranian missile hit an apartment building in Bat Yam, south of Tel Aviv, killing nine people including three children, the deadliest single strike on Israel in the war (Times of Israel).
- Israel said it hit Mashhad airport in eastern Iran and destroyed a refueling plane (BBC, as logged by the Wikipedia portal). Five car bombs exploded in Tehran that day, attributed to Israeli operations (Anadolu Agency and Al Jazeera, as summarized by Grok, August 16, 2025).
- "According to American officials, U.S. president Donald Trump vetoed a plan by Israel to assassinate the supreme leader" (Wikipedia portal, June 15 entry). The Times of London later reported, from leaked documents, that the Mossad had considered killing Khamenei, "a move reportedly rejected by Trump" (as summarized by Mark Dubowitz, June 30, 2025).
- "NEW: An emergency Pentagon meeting discusses Israel's request to intervene in the war against Iran. Source: NBC" (Clash Report, June 15, 2025). Two days in, Israel was asking the United States to join.
- Iran's president to Iraq's prime minister: "We did not start the war, but our response was resolute. If aggression continues, a more painful and crushing response awaits the aggressors" (as posted by Aditya Raj Kaul). Netanyahu, the same day: "You will pay for the women and children you killed" (Pluralia).
- By Israel's own count after three days: 24 Israelis dead, 592 injured; Iran had fired 370 ballistic missiles, "of which 30 reached their targets" (Netanyahu's press service, as reported by Pluralia).
June 16 (Day 4): state TV on air, "224 innocent" dead
- Israeli jets bombed Iran's state broadcaster IRIB in Tehran during a live newscast; the anchor fled on air, three staff were killed, and the IDF called the building a military "communication center" (Times of Israel; NPR).
- Iran's health ministry: "224 innocent men, women & children martyred in 65 hrs of Israeli regime's brutal attacks. 1,277 civilians hospitalized; over 90% of all casualties are civilians" (Iran's embassy in The Hague, June 16, 2025, a post seen more than 900,000 times). Doctors in Tehran described "a bloodbath" to The Guardian; see Civilian Harm.
- Israel's chief military censor sent newsrooms a letter forbidding them to film damage at or near military sites (France 24 Observers).
- Pezeshkian: "If America does not rein in the Zionist regime, Iran will be forced to deliver more painful responses" (@Osint613).
June 17 (Day 5): "unconditional surrender" and "I don't care what she said"
This was the day the American position changed. A same-day log of wire headlines records it hour by hour, in Eastern time (Reddit timeline of X posts, June 17, 2025):
- 01:07 AM, Reuters: G-7 midnight statement: "Iran can never have a nuclear weapon; Israel has right to self-defense." The leaders called Iran "the principal source of regional instability and terror."
- 02:23 AM: "Trump convenes emergency NSC; U.S. posture still 'defensive.'"
- 03:00 AM, Reuters: "Trump says everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran."
- 06:53 AM: "Israel says Iran has fired 400 ballistic missiles and 'hundreds' of UAVs so far."
Trump had left the G7 summit in Canada early. When France's President Macron said he left to work on a ceasefire, Trump answered: "Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that" (Truth Social, as copied by @TruthTrumpPosts). He then called for Iran's "unconditional surrender," and Iran rejected it (BBC and The Guardian, as logged by the Wikipedia portal).
On Air Force One, asked about his intelligence director's March testimony that Iran was not building a weapon, Trump said: "I don't care what she said. I think they were very close to having one" (Axios; FactCheck.org). The same day, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi told CNN: "We did not have any proof of a systematic effort to move into a nuclear weapon" (Christiane Amanpour on X). And Sen. Mark Warner: "I've seen nothing in recent intelligence that contradicts what Director Gabbard said" (AP). The full intelligence dispute is on The Nuclear Case Versus the Intelligence.
Also June 17: Rep. Thomas Massie announced a war powers resolution: "This is not our war. But if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our Constitution" (as quoted on a forum copy of his post). And the IAEA confirmed "direct impact on the underground uranium enrichment workshops in Natanz" (Mezha). Iran said it struck Israeli intelligence sites in Tel Aviv that day (Tehran Times timeline).
June 18 (Day 6)
UN Secretary-General António Guterres: "I reiterate my call for immediate de-escalation leading to a ceasefire" (as posted by @Osint613). Twenty-five Iranian ballistic missiles were launched at central Israel, most intercepted, no injuries (Ynet, as logged by the Wikipedia portal).
June 19 (Day 7): Soroka, Arak, and "two weeks"
- An Iranian missile hit the surgical wing of Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba (Times of Israel). Iran said it was aiming at "an Israeli military and intelligence centre located near the hospital" (Al Jazeera and AP, as logged by the Wikipedia portal). Standing in the ruins, Netanyahu widened the war's goal: "By the operation's end, there will be no nuclear threat to Israel and no ballistic missile threat either. We will remove both of these threats" (video posted by Israeli journalist Noga Tarnopolsky).
- Israel struck the Arak heavy-water reactor; "The IR-40 reactor containment building at the Arak Nuclear Complex was destroyed" (Wikipedia); the IAEA said the Khondab reactor had been hit but reported no radiological effects (Middle East Eye, citing Reuters).
- The White House said Trump would decide on direct strikes "within the next two weeks." An analyst wrote the same afternoon that it could be "stalling for time while American military assets continue to pour into the region," and that "the '2 week' time period is a deception tactic" (S2 Underground, June 19, 2025). He also noted "non-essential personnel are still quietly being evacuated from various diplomatic posts (such as the US Embassy in Baghdad)." The Associated Press later confirmed the deception: the line was "ostensibly to allow additional time for negotiations, but in actuality masking the impending attack" (AP via PBS).
By June 19 Iran reported more than 240 dead, including 70 women and children; at least 24 people had been killed in Israel (Al Jazeera, as logged by the Wikipedia portal).
Status: Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu, Masoud Pezeshkian, Rafael Grossi, Mark Warner, Thomas Massie, António Guterres and Emmanuel Macron are alive, as far as these sources show.
