What this video is evidence for

Danny Danon is Israel's ambassador to the United Nations. On CBS's Face the Nation (September 23, 2026), during the UN General Assembly, he lays out Israel's position on the war with Iran, and who is expected to fight it.

On Israel's war aims: "We want to make sure that Iran cannot obtain nuclear capabilities... stop the ballistic missiles, and... the proxies. If you achieve those goals, mission accomplished." On President Trump's threat to the Iranian regime at the UN the day before: "If it's not going to go through negotiations, you will have to use economic sanctions and military force."

Then, on what comes next:

"Everyone is waiting to see what he [Netanyahu] will say about Iran, because we know that we have to finish the job. We will wait for the decision of President Trump, but we are there."

He adds that Iran is attacking American allies in the Gulf but "not attacking Israel, because they know what will happen."

Listen to how the roles are divided. Israel names the goals and says the job must be finished. The American President is expected to make the decision and lead the way. The machine transcript renders "war" as "wall" and "Iran" as "A1" in places, a quirk of the accent.

Where this fits: see American Soldiers Iran Articles for the full explanation and sources.

Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danone, joins us now on set once again. Mr. Ambassador, welcome back. Thanks for having me here. To have you here.

Major issues being discussed at the U.N. General Assembly this week. Is the U.S.

or the U.S. and Israel on the same page when it comes to goals with the war? Is Israel comfortable with behavioral change, not regime change? We respect the leadership of President Trump.

And we are grateful for his leadership. Yesterday, he came to the United Nations, delivered a powerful speech, demonstrated moral clarity, and I compare his speech to the Secretary of General, where I saw weakness. And I think you see that the president, he realizes that there is a gap, and there is a vacuum, and he takes the leadership ball. The UN is not relevant, and the U.S.

is leading. So we respect the leadership role of the United States, but we know the our goals for the wall. We want to make sure that Iran cannot obtain nuclear capabilities. We'll stop with the ballistic missiles, and we will not pay the poxies. If you achieve those goals, mission accomplished.

If not, then we have to be worried about A1, because I feel the Iranians at the UN, they are very arrogant, they feel superior to everyone else, and I think they, they, to everyone, we want the wall. Now, we know it's not the case. They lost the wall, but they pretend to win the wall. You say the president had moral clarity when he spoke yesterday at the U.N.

A lot of critics saw that speech as, um, perhaps lacking moral clarity, given the fact that he made an ultimatum like he did. You know, the president did a very rough language. And I thought my colleagues moving in the chairs when he spoke about the future of Ivan. I think he meant the future of the regime of everyone, not the Iranian people. We, in Israel, we respect Iranian people.

We believe that we can walk with them like we did before the Revolution, but the president is very clear. If it's not going to go through negotiations, you will have to use economical sanctions and military faults. We want to avoid it, but we see the behavior of Iran. As we speak, the attack target in Saudis, the attack the allied of the US in the region, I'm not talking about Israel. They are not attacking Israel, because they know what will happen.

We will retaliate, and we are great intelligence, so they are not attacking Israel, but they are attacking so many allies of the U.S. The, you know, Israeli reputation around the world has taken a hit somewhat since this specific war. But if we think back, the UN was created, in part, to create Israel as a state, post World War II. Last year, Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the body, there were protests inside.

The UN has refused to intervene in this conflict. Do you worry that Israel has lost some of its global standing because of its behavior in the region? First, I agree with you. It was a costly war for us. Three years since October 7th.

We fought in so many front lines, and it's heavy. It's painful, and I know that many people are tired. He and in Israel, but we have no choice. We have to make sure that Hamas is disarmed, and we can build a better future for the Palestinian Gaza, and for the Israelis. Regarding the UN, you know, when it was established, it was a great idea, great values, but today, it shifted.

So, we are going to elect a new secretary general, and I hope that he or she will change this organization, will reform this organization, and we will go back to the cold values of the UN. Today, you know, I sat there, and I saw the bashing of Israel. The leader of Turkey, everyone, came there, you know, the language he used, comparing us to the Nazis, you know, horrible language, and I don't think he really cares about the Palestinians. It's only a platform to incite against Israel and against the Jewish communities. You have not been shy in your critique of New York City mayor, Zoran Momdami, for his critique of Netanyahu.

You know, there's been a lot of back and forth here. Is that just, has that become a distraction? It is. You know, the mail started with that back in July. I don't understand why.

You know, either mayor of New York. We all want this week to be peaceful. You know, we have crazy traffic. It's a very hard week for everyone who living in this city. And instead, he called people to go to the streets.

We don't know what will be the consequences of that. We expect demonstrations to know when the Prime Minister will deliver its speech in the general assembly, but I expect the mayor to allow everyone to live peacefully in the city, and not to instigate, and not to incite, and the language he used against the Prime Minister of Israel. The fact that he supported Hamas, that is a problem for us. And I said it very clearly. He has no right to tell Prime Minister Nathaniel whether we can come or not.

And the Prime Minister is making a major effort tomorrow, to come for a few hours, to deliver the speech, and go back to Israel for the holiday. What can we expect from the Prime Minister's speech tomorrow? First, he will speak about the wall and what we achieved, but also the opportunity ahead of us. We celebrated the Abrahama code. Six years ago, we signed amazing agreement with the UAE, Bahuen, Morocco.

We expect more countries to join the Abraham code, and I think everyone is waiting to see what he will say about A1, because we know that we have to finish the job. We will wait for the decision of Predrend Trump, but we are there. We see the ballistic missiles flying everywhere, and we are watching it very carefully. Basler, Danny, to know. It's always great to have you here.

Thank you. So you come to the U.N. one day. And we're happy to.

We're happy to. Thank you. Thank you for being here. Thank you, Master.
