What this video is evidence for
In the second week of the war (early March 2026), Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo put the question millions of American parents were asking directly to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt:
"Mothers out there are worried that we're going to have a draft, that they're going to see their sons get in, and daughters get involved in this. What do you want to say about the president's plans for troops on the ground?"
Leavitt's answer did not rule it out:
"It has been [an air campaign], and it will continue to be, and President Trump wisely does not remove options off of the table. I know a lot of politicians like to do that quickly. But the president, as commander in chief, wants to continue to assess the success of this military operation. It's not part of the current plan right now, but the president, again, wisely keeps his options on the table."
This video plays her full answer, followed by commentary from a British YouTube commentator who calls the idea of drafting Americans for Iran "absolutely insane" and argues the war "was down to Netanyahu."
"Not part of the current plan right now" is not "no." A month later, automatic draft registration was set to begin that December (see the Selective Service page), and Israeli media was floating debt forgiveness for American recruits.

Hi guys, so Donald Trump's special military operation in Iran is going so well that Fox News, his favorite channel, is asking questions like, are you going to bring in the draft? Now the draft hasn't been used since 1972. It was issued in 72 and applied in 1973 during the Vietnam War. Now, the White House press secretary was asked about this, and have a listen to her response. Mothers out there are worried that we're going to have a draft that they're going to see their sons get in and daughters get involved in this.
What do you want to say about the president's plans for troops on the ground? As we know, it's been largely an air campaign up until now. It has been, and it will continue to be, and President Trump wisely does not remove options off of the table. I know a lot of politicians like to do that quickly. But the president, as commander in chief, wants to continue to assess the success of this military operation.
It's not part of the current plan right now, but the president, again, wisely keeps his options on the table. Okay, so an option on the table would be the draft. Calling up people who have no military experience, sending them to boot camp and then throwing them into the meat grinder. Now, look, let me be honest. I don't see this happening.
I don't think we're at the stage of the military draft. If you look at Vietnam, a lot of fighting went on before the draft was issued, and the draft was a desperate last throw of the die. So I don't think at the moment this is an option being considered, but instead there may be deployment. So current US troops, professional soldiers, could be sent to Iran. There was a hope that the Kurds would do the US's fighting for them, but as we've seen in the past, and the Kurds have understand this better than anyone else.
They've been lied to before. They were promised, hey, if you help us, we will support you in an independent state for your for your people. And then when the Kurds did fight for, uh, The West, they were ignored. They did not receive the backing of an of having an independent country. So that has sort of fallen by the wayside.
And of course, anyone who would trust Donald Trump needs their head examined. But it shows here that there is an escalation taking place. There is the possibility that US troops will be sent into Iran, which would be an absolute disaster. These people have not learned. The lessons of Iraq.
Even this week. You had Tony Blair, one of the architects of that disaster, criticizing the UK for not following Donald Trump into Iran. But if Donald Trump does start sending troops into that country. I think whatever support he has is going to dwindle to pretty much nothing. This war is extremely unpopular in the UK.
It's extremely unpopular in the US, and the idea, although I think it's way out there, it's not going to happen, but the idea of drafting men and women to go to Iran to fight for what? What would they actually be fighting for? Because at the beginning, it was nuclear weapons, and then they, well, last year they said they had destroyed them. Now they said we need to destroy them again. Okay?
They were obliterated last year. Now they're saying recently they said we had to go in to destroy them. Then it moved to a regime change. No, we need to remove the regime. That's not working very well, and now they recently bombed.
An oil refinery. Which is threatening the lives, the pollution of that, the acid rain is threatening the lives of the people of Tehran. I thought it was about encouraging people to come out and fight the regime. Well, if you're killing most of them, there'd be nobody left to fight the regime. It seems all of this was down to Netanyahu, Netanyahu wanted to destroy Iran, and he was, he found a president like Donald Trump, who was gullible enough to go along with him.
I think previous presidents, Biden and Joe Biden, Biden, sorry, and Obam in particular. We were like, no, we'll support you to defend your country, but we're not going into Iran. This will be an absolute disaster. And it seems Netanyahu found someone dumb enough. In Trump, To go along with him.
And of course, Trump has surrounded himself with sycophants and religious freaks, who would, of course, support the idea of bombing Iran as well. But finally, the draft, I don't see it happening, I think it would be absolutely insane. But then we're talking about somebody who is absolutely insane. So while at the moment, The chances of it are pretty much zero. It's never completely zero.
