Captured: How American Power Was Steered Toward War with Iran
Most Americans were never asked whether they wanted a war with Iran. Polls taken during it found majorities opposed: 53 percent in a Quinnipiac poll early in the 2026 war, and 59 percent telling AP-NORC it had "gone too far." Congress never voted to authorize it. The President's own counterterrorism chief resigned saying Iran "posed no imminent threat." And yet the war came, twice: in June 2025 and again on February 28, 2026.
This page teaches the central thesis of this investigation. The thesis: the United States government has been captured by the influence of a foreign state, Israel, through its government, its intelligence services, and its lobby in Washington; that captured machinery was steered toward a war Israel's leaders had sought for three decades; and the tools of capture are money, access, intelligence, integration, spying, leverage, punishment of dissenters, and control of the story the public is told. Each tool has its own page in this section, and the evidence for each is gathered there. This page puts them together and lets the people closest to the machinery describe it in their own words.
A note on what this thesis is and is not. It concerns a state and the institutions that serve it: Israel's government, its intelligence services, and the American organizations that lobby for it. It is not about Jewish Americans as a people or a faith, many of whom oppose this war. The line matters, and keeping it clear makes the case stronger.
"His wish is our command"
The clearest statements of the thesis come from Americans who have served inside the system.
- The President himself, in September 2025, two months after the first strikes: "Israel was the strongest lobby I've ever seen. They had total control over Congress, and now they don't." (Spectator Index; Daily Caller interview). In 2021 he had said: "Israel literally owned Congress — you understand that — 10 years ago, 15 years ago" (radio interview with Ari Hoffman, as quoted by Pierre Lherisson on X, July 4, 2026).
- Former Congressman John J. Duncan Jr., Republican of Tennessee: "Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, seems to have almost total control of the White House and Congress. His wish is our command. We are fighting Netanyahu's war against Iran at great expense to U.S. taxpayers." (essay "Republicans Who Support War In Iran Are Giving Democrats Chance To Control Congress," as posted by @judymorris3, September 20, 2026).
- Col. Douglas Macgregor, retired Army officer and former Pentagon adviser: "Obviously, Prime Minister Netanyahu desperately wanted the war but the unprovoked attack on Iran is a whole-of-government-failure. The ugly truth is that Israel and its domestic American supporters captured the White House, the Congress, and largely control US defense and intelligence agencies." (Macgregor on X, May 26, 2026).
- Joe Kent, the President's own National Counterterrorism Center director, resigning: "it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby." Later: "the narrative & agenda spun by a foreign government- Israel, won the argument & forced us into this war" (see Joe Kent).
- Vice President JD Vance, July 2026, on the Joe Rogan podcast: some in Israel's government are "manipulating and trying to change American public opinion to keep the war going on indefinitely," through "this very discreet, extremely well-funded campaign" (BBC, July 16, 2026).
- A Pentagon source, as early as October 2023: "there is a growing sentiment that Israel is manipulating the US into a war with Iran. 'The Israelis say they don't want a regional war on multiple fronts, but then keep striking Iranian allies everywhere, and leave us to deal with the fallout'" (Sharmine Narwani on X, October 25, 2023).
- Senator Bernie Sanders, as rendered in a widely shared post: "A lot of US Middle East policy is dictated by Israel. It was Israel who decided they wanted to go to war" (captured search summary).
- A former Israeli military intelligence officer, Shaiel Ben-Ephraim of Unit 8200, describing how Americans see it: "the prevailing view is that Netanyahu, through lobbies, organizations such as the FDD, and figures close to Trump (including Rubio, Hegseth, and Kushner), is directing American foreign policy" (interview summary by Akbar Ganji on X, July 29, 2026).
The machinery, tool by tool
1. The request. Israel's leaders asked. For thirty years Netanyahu urged American action against Iran; he presented war plans to three earlier presidents, who refused; in June 2025 and February 2026 he pressed the current President directly. When the State Department's lawyer wrote down the legal basis for the 2026 war, the first reason was that the United States entered "at the request of" Israel. See Netanyahu's campaign.
2. Money. AIPAC and its super PAC spent about $95 million on the 2024 elections, and pro-Israel groups spent more than $9 million to defeat the House Republican who led the effort to stop the war. See AIPAC and the lobby.
3. Access. AIPAC's CEO boasted of "lifelines" to the Secretary of State, the National Security Adviser, and the CIA Director. Kent describes "an echo chamber" of donors, officials, TV hosts, and think-tank experts around the President. See the lifelines.
4. Ideas. Think tanks aligned with Israel wrote the plans: JINSA's strike plan naming Fordow, and FDD's list of Iranian attacks that the White House reused almost word for word as its case for war. See think tanks.
5. Intelligence. An administration official told The Grayzone that the CIA Director and the CENTCOM commander were passing Israeli and Mossad briefings to the President without telling him the source. Even the pro-war magazine Commentary conceded that "Israeli intelligence... did help persuade Trump to launch the second Iran war when he did." See intelligence versus the public case.
6. Integration. Congress wrote Israel into the Pentagon's weapons machinery through Section 219 of the 2027 defense bill, and blocked a separate vote to strip it. Dennis Kucinich: "One step from a merger is an acquisition" (as quoted by Tony Seruga, July 7, 2026). See Section 219.
7. Spying. The Pentagon rated Israel a "critical" counterintelligence threat in 2026 for eavesdropping on the Americans negotiating the peace. See Mossad in the Pentagon.
8. Leverage. The Epstein network, which investigators link to intelligence services, is the thesis's explanation for how officials are held. See Epstein and the war.
9. Punishment. Those who said no paid: Massie lost his seat, Greene left Congress after threats against her son, Kent was called weak and antisemitic, Carlson was called "kooky." See opponents.
10. The story. Reporters were pushed out of the Pentagon, dissenting intelligence was called the work of a "low-level loser," and paid influence campaigns reached Americans online. See narrative control.
What scholars found
The pattern shows up in data, not only in testimony. A 2026 study in the Policy Studies Journal analyzed more than 31,000 documents from 2010 to early 2026 and found that the pro-Israel lobby's language about Iran came first and Congress's followed: "By supplying prepackaged, militarized vocabulary used to interpret the crisis, the lobby precedes the legislature in the rhetorical sequence and helps shape a permissive environment for the President's unilateral initiation of the February 2026 regional war." It called Congress "a permeable escalatory amplifier" (Aras, Policy Studies Journal, Wiley). Harvard's Stephen Walt, co-author of The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy, wrote that AIPAC, the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, the Zionist Organization of America, and United Against Nuclear Iran "have worked to demonise Iran over the years, prevent US companies from doing business there, and derail prior attempts" by Iranian presidents to improve relations (Al Majalla, March 2026).
The four threads of the thesis
Four threads go beyond lobbying and money into the hidden side of capture. Each has its own full page:
Mossad in the Pentagon. Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, Colin Powell's chief of staff, says Mossad officers walked into the Pentagon without identification in 2002 and that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said, "Hell, I don't run my building, Mossad does!" In 2026 the Pentagon's own counterintelligence officers rated Israel a "critical" spying threat. Read the full page.
The pressure on Marjorie Taylor Greene. The Georgia Republican broke with the war, called Israel's war in Gaza a genocide, and forced the Epstein files vote. She was branded a traitor, received assassination threats against her son, and left Congress. Read the full page.
Charlie Kirk. Kirk spent days in the White House in June 2025 trying to stop a war with Iran and was killed that September; the National Counterterrorism Center's look at foreign involvement, its director says, was stopped. Read the full page.
The Epstein network. Investigative journalist Whitney Webb, nine days before the 2026 bombing: "Israel, who was very involved with Epstein, and allegedly used kompromat and blackmail to manipulate U.S. policy, has been trying for decades to get the U.S. to go to war with Iran." Read the full page.
Why it matters to your family
A captured government does not have to ask the people. It can take a country to war without a vote in Congress, pay for it with hundreds of billions in borrowed money, and prepare the machinery to conscript young Americans (see the forced draft law and the draft software), while the public is told nothing is happening. USS Liberty survivor Philip Tourney, whose ship was attacked by Israel in 1967, said it bluntly: "Israel controls us. They control Congress. They control the Senate. They control our money. We don't control our country." (as posted by @JangIranNews, August 27, 2026). Whether that is true is the question this whole section puts before the reader, with the evidence.
